We have provisioned a new high speed fibre link between Tauranga and our vGRID Platform in Hamilton to provide a faster and more reliable connection for our vGRID Access customers in the Bay of Plenty. We have completed testing of this new link and will be migrating all existing customer connections to the new link. This will mitigate the disruption that we have had in the past due to power issues with Vocus at Waikato Innovation Park and will allow for the sale of Full Speed UFB services at close to 1Gbps downstream.

The change will be happening around 9pm and we expect a short disruption of no more than 2 minutes while Ultrafast Fibre migrate the customer connections. We will complete testing shortly afterwards and confirm when the migration has been completed. No changes are required with the customer connections.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our service desk at support@vgrid.nz during normal business hours.

Hamilton Firewall Replacement May 29, 22:00-23:00 NZST
We are replacing our existing border firewall cluster that connects our Hamilton vGRID Platform to the Internet with newer hardware with more capacity.
During this maintenance window, Hamilton based vGRID services and Waikato & Bay of Plenty UFB customers may experience disruption of service while the change happens. We expect these disruptions should be between 2-5 minutes in length and there should be no more than two within the maintenance window.

Scheduled - We will be upgrading the NSX Management Servers and VXLAN software within our vGRID host clusters. This upgrade is non-impacting but does require the reboot of underlying host servers which will require live migration of customer workloads throughout the maintenance period.

We do not anticipate any disruption to customer workloads while this work is being performed and we will be carefully monitoring customer services throughout the maintenance period. This work is a preparation step before we upgrade the platform to vSphere 6.5 and provides additional capabilities and improvements to the virtual network software.

May 17, 22:00 NZST
Scheduled - With the successful upgrade to vCloud Director 9.0 we are now able to use the full VMware NSX Edge Gateway product set. We will shortly be deploying an upgrade to our NSX Management servers and need to bring all customer Edge Gateways up to a current version of NSX. The deployment process which upgrades the Edge Gateways will cause a brief 30 second drop in network traffic to vGRID customer networks.

We will be deploying these upgrades on a per customer basis so you can expect a short drop in network traffic of around 30 seconds at some point within the maintenance window. This will only impact Internet access for virtual servers hosted in the vGRID environment in Auckland and Hamilton.

It has been noted that after the upgrade it may not be possible to display the shared key for VPN configurations within vCloud Director. If you need to know the shared key for any customer VPNs using an Edge Gateway please document those before the evening of the 17th of May. Alternatively the VPN configuration can be recreated to create a known shared key, though this process is disruptive. While the shared key may not be visible the VPN tunnels operate as expected.

Scheduled - We are upgrading our Hamilton vGRID Protect platform. The upgrade is needed to maintain our on-going commitment to provide up to date technology and better security. As part of the upgrade, we will be adding encryption for the vGRID Protect web management interface. The new web management url will be https://protect-hlz.vgrid.nz:4285 which can also be found in the vGRID Customer Portal.

The Hamilton vGRID Protect platform will not be available for backup or restore during the upgrade. The backup client on your computers will handle this automatically and once the upgrade is completed, it will reconnect.
